Rules

Character Generation

Create a first-level character for any D&D-like system (5e, A5E, Hack, if you want to play a B/X character I’ll try and make it work).

I’m going to track party XP for leveling up, in order to make sure that the rewards-per-level math comes out close to right. Or maybe I’ll give up and wing it after a session, who knows?

Magic Items

See the BattleZoo Bestiary quickstart.

In this world, most magic items need to be custom made for, and by, the person who will use them, or the energy signatures won’t match properly. That means that characters need to find and collect the parts they need for items (magical and mundane) in order to craft them themselves.

Mundane (non-magical) items can be bought and sold, or made by yourself, but they will need to be refined and then imbued magical ingredients in order to improve them and enable magical abilities.

Travel

We’re using the A5E rules for traveling through different regions. If you don’t have the A5E book, here’s a summary blog post.

If your character isn’t using the A5E rules, there are some options for you.

Campaign

Thornbury is a small village on the edge of the settled world, and the mountain pass back to civilization is impassable in the deeps of winter.

It’s been a long winter in the village. The last trade caravan was months ago, but all the locals are looking forward to the arrival of the first caravan of spring.

Are you a local, born and raised here in Thornbury? Did you come last autumn, and get stuck when the pass closed earlier than expected? Or do you have another reason to be here?
