Collecting
When you defeat a monster or deal with a nature encounter, you will be able to collect some number of “parts”. You should record how many parts, and what the source is, because you will need them later to create items and to infuse items.
Collecting doesn’t require any checks, but does take some amount of time, so any encounter that you flee you will be unable to collect.
| Creature Size | Parts Weight |
|---|---|
| Small | 1 lb |
| Medium | 10 lb |
| Large | 20 lbs |
| Huge | 40 lbs |
| Gargantuan | 80 lbs |
Compatibility
When you use parts, you need to check that they are compatible with the project.
Eamples:
- If a monster has an attack that does “piercing” damage, the parts are compatible with “piercing”.
- If a monster has natural armor, the parts are compatible with “armor”.
- If the parts are collected from a non-combat encounter in a fire swamp, they would be compatible with “fire”.
- Parts may have multiple compatibilities: a monster with both “poison” and “slashing” attacks would be compatible with both.
Creating items
To create a mundane items from parts, you need a number of parts equivalent to the GP price of the item, and they need to be compatible. For example, to create a rapier you will need parts compatible with “piercing”, but to create leather armor you need parts that are compatible with “armor”.
You can then begin to refine the item and make it magical.
Disassembling items
If you want to disassemble an item that your character made, you can recover 90% of the parts. If you want to disassemble an item from an NPC, you can recover 50% of the parts.
